It’s Officially Summer

Happy June 21st, aka the first day of Summer!

  • June 21st is known as the longest day of the year, as well as the start of Summer
  • Summer ends on September 22nd, which will begin Fall
  • For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, Earth is tilting mostly toward the Sun. As seen from Earth, the Sun is directly overhead at noon 23.5 degrees north of the equator, at an imaginary line encircling the globe known as the Tropic of Cancer. In the Southern Hemisphere, it is now Winter.
  • The first day of summer can range from June 20th-22nd based on how the sun reaches the most northernest point from the equator
  • Although humans enjoy the heat, many animals also thrive in summer and its no longer hibernating season! For example, mosquitos and flies are now fully awake and tend to be summer menaces.
  • Make sure to enjoy summer, with the longer days and more sunshine!
