Sugar Still Considered a Major Concern on Dental Health
Believe it or not, even with the amount of fluoride readily available today, tooth decay is still considered a major health concern. This is largely affected by the amounts of sugar in our diets today. Most drinks, including soft drinks, sports drinks and fruit juices, as well as processed foods, are loaded with sugar. The World Health Organization is recognizing this and focusing on implementing new policies that recommend trying to limit sugar to 5% of total calorie intake. They are also trying to implement industry standards that involve reducing the amount of sugar in processed foods and drinks.
In the meantime, we should all read the labels on our food and drinks and try to limit our daily sugar intake. Drink water instead of sugary drinks. Use fluoride toothpaste and floss daily. Remember, the health of your mouth largely contributes to your overall health! For more info about dental health and the office of Drs. Eric and Casey Burns, please visit our website. kg
