Total Solar Eclipse Coming August 21, 2017

whitelightcoronajpgOn August 21, 2017, a total solar eclipse will darken the skies across the United States in a 70 mile wide band stretching from Oregon to South Carolina.  This Great American Total Solar Eclipse will be a period of complete darkness lasting for almost 3 minutes in which the moon will pass in front of the sun, completely blocking all light.  To see the eclipse in it’s totality, you will have to be in its direct path.  A list of the cities affected can be found here.  Scientists promise this will be an event you won’t want to miss. However, they warn against looking directly at the eclipse with the naked eye because it can harm your eyesight.  They recommend purchasing special eclipse watching glasses to safely watch this amazement. So, if astronomy interests you and you haven’t planned your summer vacation yet, you may want to visit one of the cities in the path.  Happy eclipse watching from everyone at Burns Family Dentistry!  kg
